THE TWIN BRIEF
Last Chol HaMoed weekday — shake the lulav, finish strong in the sukkah, then catch up: Oilers rematch in Van tonight, Gemini 4, and yields at multi-decade highs.

Finish the festival like it still matters
Yalkut Yosef and Ben Ish Chai teachings on the end of Sukkot stress that Chol HaMoed isn’t a soft landing before you forget the holiday — it’s practice. Today is the last weekday of Chol HaMoed (20 Tishrei). Tonight after sundown begins the eve of Hoshana Rabbah, when we circle with the arba minim and beat the willow (aravah) — a day many associate with the final sealing of the judgment that started on Rosh Hashana. The message for teens isn’t scary; it’s practical: don’t coast through the last ordinary day. Take the lulav this morning. Eat one more meal under the s’chach. When Hoshana Rabbah and then Shemini Atzeret / Simchat Torah arrive, you’ll have kept the simcha warm instead of trying to restart it cold. Finishing strong is its own kind of joy.

Kyiv school hit · Iran gets U.S. Hormuz reply · Pakistan strikes Afghanistan
- Ukraine: A Russian drone struck a school in Kyiv on Thursday as Moscow kept up overnight attacks; officials also reported injuries in Kyiv and the Black Sea port of Odesa. Analysts say Russia is ramping a winter campaign against energy and city infrastructure — meaning colder months could get harder for civilians even if front lines barely move.
- Iran / Hormuz: Tehran said it received an official U.S. response to its proposal for a short pause and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, but big gaps remain on sequencing (who gives what first). President Trump again framed the choice as deal-or-escalation and said the war ends “very soon.” Crude transit has been edging back toward prewar flow levels, but refined products (diesel especially) stay tight — so pump prices still matter.
- South Asia: Afghanistan’s Taliban government said Pakistani airstrikes killed nine and injured 11 in Kunar and Helmand after a stretch of relative calm — another reminder that “allies yesterday” can clash hard over border militancy. Why it matters: energy lanes, winter power in Ukraine, and regional flashpoints all show up in gas, groceries, and headlines teens actually feel.

Google Gemini 4 Argon · Armadin’s $255M agentic cyber raise
- Google unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, billed as its most capable frontier model yet for coding, complex work, and cybersecurity. First access goes to “trusted cyber defenders” (with government safety checks) before a wider paid rollout — a rare case of a big lab shipping the strongest tools to defense teams first.
- Cyber startup Armadin raised $255.5 million Series B (a16z + Accel) at a valuation over $2.5 billion, seven months after launch, to scale AI “agent swarms” that hunt real attack paths before humans can. Separately, recruiting-AI firm Metaview closed a $60M Series C as more hiring work shifts to agents inside Slack. For teens: the AI race isn’t only chatbots — it’s who gets the strongest models, and who automates jobs that used to need a human inbox.

10-year yield ~5.33% (highest since 2002) · Hormuz crude back · diesel watch
- The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield climbed to about 5.33% — levels last seen in 2002 — with the 30-year also near multi-decade highs. Higher long rates make mortgages, car loans, and credit cards more expensive; Q4 trading opened with futures only modestly higher as bond jitters stayed loud.
- Oil: Research houses say Hormuz crude exports have roughly returned to a ~13.5M bpd prewar average, and Brent/WTI were softer early Thursday — but diesel and other refined products remain constrained. Trump said he’s still “thinking about” a diesel export ban to cool pump prices; refiners warn that could backfire. Soft inflation prints haven’t calmed the bond sell-off yet — watch the jobs report later this week.
